On a very cold and windy Friday the 7th of December 2007, the village of Blaby located just on the southern outskirts of Leicester closed it's road completely to allow a small fun fair to be erected and for the official switching on of the Blaby Christmas lights. SinVision was there to film the event where Katie Lees-Emanuel - Miss Blaby 2007, made the announcement over a hand held tanoy counting down from 5 -1 with the help of Mr Joe David, Blaby's official Town Cryer, before pressing the button which lit up the Christmas lights in Blaby precinct. A very large crowd turned out for the event and a good freindly atmosphere was there to be seen from the townsfolk of Blaby. Photographs below taken by Adrian from Solo Promotions based in Blaby.
The Miss Blaby Competition originates back to the mid 1970's and ran for around 8 years before it faded into obscurity. Towards the end of 2003, it re-emerged once again from the archives, organised by Adrian Bramley, brother of former Miss Blaby 1976, Debbie Bramley.
He felt Blaby needed to regain some of the glamour that it had lost over the years.
Held at the Corus Hotel in May, accompanied by a 3 course meal, the competition was deemed a huge success. |
