Being a proud member of The Leicester Movie makers meant that this year I was part of the film crew covering this years Sword production of The Christ in the Centre which took place on Good Friday 21 March 2008. Once again the centre of Leicester City came to a stand still as Christ in the Centre took place infront of many thousands of onlookers.

With seven cameras and operators positioned around three main locations The Leicester Movie Makers were able to capture The Christ in the Centre as it took place. Several of the club members were on hand to film the rehersals which took place on the Sunday prior to Good Friday. The Leicester Movie Makers is a group of adults that like to film, edit and produce their own movies which get entered into the East Midlands Amateur Cinematographers Institute. If you would like to join or require more information about The Leicester Movie Makers club please email Terry Greengrass.

The Leicester Movie makers pose for a photo oppertunity.

This year Christ in the Centre started in Castle Yard in Leicester with a dramatic presentation of John Wesley's visit to Leicester in 1770 and his message of love, forgiveness and restoration.  The procession then moved to Town Hall Square for a series of scenes from Jesus' ministry - meeting with Zacchaeus the tax collector, parables of the lost sheep and the Pharisees and the tax collector, the healing of the haemorrhaging woman, the healing of the ten lepers, the raising of Lazarus, the Last Supper and the Arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane after being betrayed by Judas Iscariot. After his trial before the Sanhedrin, Jesus is led through the streets of Leicester to Humberstone Gate to be examined by the Roman Governor, Pontius Pilate. There he is flogged and eventually sentenced to death by crucifixion.

After being nailed to the cross, the final scenes of the crucifixion had Jesus comforting his mother, Mary, accompanied by his disciple John and then crying out and committing his spirit to his Father before his body was lowered into the arms of his grieving mother.  His body is taken away to be buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea and guards are posted to ensure his disciples did not seal his body. At dawn on the third day, some followers went to look at the tomb and an angel told them that Jesus was not there and he had risen. They hurried to tell the other followers before Jesus triumphantly returns and gives his Great Commission.

The pageant was completed by closing prayers were led by the Bishop of Leicester. Kristyna Myles joined the musicians directed by Rod Iliffe to lead some of the worship.  There was a time for reflection, talk prayer and song with more worship with music from the Whetstone Baptist Church praise group, Kimil Park International Church choir, a gospel choir and various testimonies until 4pm.

John Collen with his company Soundstage One was responsible for the visual screens which allowed people who were at the back of the area to hear and see clear images of the event. John is a former broadcast engineer and producer with an extensive background working as a sound and light engineer and production manager in theatre, concert environments and nightclubs.

Jeff Pallett from SES Technical was responsible for the audio to the actors mics and PA systems. SES Technical was formed in 1998, to provide technical expertise to the conference, exhibition and Leisure industry offering a full management service to a wide client base, and have been used for sound to Christ in The Centre for the last 5 years.

The special event music was composed by Kendal Kirkland and arranged & orchestrated by Rod Iliffe (Musical Director).
